Zakat

Every year, without fail, my father would pester me to update him the amount of money I have in my savings, CPF, gold or shares. My father is an Amil* in a nearby mosque, so he is, and has always been, very particular about these things. I started contributing Zakat Harta since I started working and have enough to support myself. Zakat is one of the five pillars of Islam that cannot be ignored. I know, it is to purify my assets. And every year, the commercials on TV would remind us about it. I think it’s a good thing. If not, people might forget. As for Zakat Fitrah, that’s my father's responsibilities. So no more worries!

And I broke fast with my grandfather, mom, aunt, uncle and my lil cuzzies yesterday. Somehow the topic about Zakat would surface, just to remind each other. Anyway, I’ve settled mine. Phew!

By the way, after the break fast, I asked my 3 years old cousin.
"What do you want to be when you grow up?"
He replied,"MOMOK!!" (GHOST!!)
That’s the funniest thing I’ve ever heard from a kid. I was laughing like mad…Lol~

P.S. This also acts as a reminder to all Muslims.
* Someone who is appointed to collect zakat.

"Ambillah (sebahagian) dari harta mereka menjadi sedekah, supaya dengannya engkau membersihkan mereka (dari dosa) dan mensucikan mereka (dari akhlak yang buruk), dan doakanlah untuk mereka, kerana sesungguhnya doamu itu menjadi ketenteraman bagi mereka, dan (ingatlah) Allah Maha Mendengar lagi Maha Mengetahui."
Surah At-Taubah (ayat 103)
